New Year’s Celebrations – Go Splashy.

Typically during the holiday season, there’s a gift exchange at the workplace.  You might draw someone’s name who you don’t know well at all.

In this situation, a gift basket is perfect. Add generic items, like gourmet cheeses or candies, throw in a few “fun but useful things” that you can find at the local discount store that you personally could use every day, such as bottle openers, beverage coolers, small flash lights, pedometers, pens … you name it.  The recipient will enjoy finding all the goodies you’ve place in the basket … and you won’t need to break your budget with your gift.  Office people tend to love cartoon calendars or other small desk calendars.  Find a calendar that’s funny and she or he will remember you all year with each joke for the day.

Things to Avoid When Giving Christmas Gift Baskets at the Office.

Don’t give things of a religious nature unless you’re certain about the beliefs of your recipient.  Giving a faith-based gift that you consider to be wonderful and inspiring might offend someone else.  In fact, it might create tensions at the workplace.

Stick to your budget.  It’s easy to get carried away when giving gifts.  Remember, you’ll be buying the basket, the packaging and gifts.  These can add up if you go over five gifts.

When deciding what to put in a basket, only add personal items if the gift is for family or close friends.  For instance, you might add a country and western music CD to a gift basket, only to find out that your recipient can’t stand that form of music.  At the office, always keep it generic.

Creating a Christmas gift basket isn’t rocket science, but you do need to remember that coffee and wine may be against someone’s religion, religion as a whole is offense to some, and not everyone has the same tastes.  When it comes to gifting at the workplace, a Christmas gift basket is a wonderful way to wish someone a good holiday season.

By the way, unless you work at a Christian church, you’re probably safest calling it a “holiday” gift.

Step One:  Buy and Line the Basket Before Filling It with Goodies.

The first thing you need to do is to get a basket for the gift. Before filling a gift basket, it’s good to know the size of your basket because it will let you know how much fabric or how large a holiday cloth to place in the bottom of the basket.

Generally, It is best if the liner of the basket hangs over the edges about 1 ½ to 2 inches. This allows the decorative fabric to “frame” or outline the gifts inside.

When creating a Thanksgiving gift basket, you can find holiday table runners or cloth napkins that will fit inside your basket. The table runner might be too long, so fold the middle upon itself inside the bottom of the basket.  This gives a cushioned based for the other gifts to sit upon.

Step Two:  Add Seasonal Treats!

For a quality Thanksgiving gift basket, consider including a 3-5 inch chrysanthemum.  Use a maroon or golden color, and make sure it matches the fabric you’ve chosen to line the basket. This will give the interior of the basket visual height and bright color, not to mention the overall beauty of holiday colored flowers. I

Adding a bottle of wine or sparkling cider is a gift that can be used during the course of the Thanksgiving meal and reflects the festive feel of the holiday. Of course, cheeses, crackers, gourmet coffees and candies are a nice addition to any gift basket, and they’re something that can be used as an appetizer or desert for the holiday meal.

There are many types of candles that express a feeling of fall and Thanksgiving. Candles that are ideal for a Thanksgiving gift basket include those that are scented with traditional Thanksgiving smells, such as pumpkin spice, apple pie, and cloves.

You might be able to find some seasonal poetry books in the gift card section of your local retailer.  Personalize it with a handwritten note.
